Computer car diagnostics in Timișoara and Dumbrăvița

A warning light doesn’t tell you what’s wrong – only that something is. Computer diagnostics does the translation: we read the fault codes from every control unit in your car, verify them mechanically and explain what we found in plain English. No parts swapped on a hunch.

  • Multi-brand tester – diesel, petrol, hybrid
  • We verify mechanically what the code points to, not just read it
  • Explained in plain language, then a fixed price for the repair
What it is

What a computer diagnosis actually means

A modern car keeps its own notes on what’s wrong. A diagnosis is the moment we read those notes – and match them against what you feel at the wheel.

Every car built in the last twenty years has several control units: engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag, comfort, climate. Each one stores the faults it notices, including the ones that show up once a fortnight and have vanished by the time you reach the workshop. We plug into the OBD socket and read all of them, not just the engine unit.

Worth knowing: a fault code shows the area of the problem, not always the guilty part. “Lambda sensor” can mean a faulty sensor – but it can just as easily mean a false air leak upstream of it. That’s why reading codes is where our diagnosis starts, not where it ends.

After reading, we mechanically verify what the codes point to and tie everything back to the symptoms you describe: when it happens, cold or warm, moving or idling. Only then do we know what the car has – and only then do we talk about price.

Symptoms

When a diagnosis is worth it

The situations where a diagnosis saves you money – because otherwise parts get replaced on suspicion.

If your car matches any of the situations below, call us and describe the symptom. We can often tell you which direction we’ll be looking in while you’re still on the phone.

Warning light on the dash

Check engine, ABS, airbag, a flashing glow-plug light. We read the fault from the unit that triggered it and tell you whether you can drive on or should stop.

The car drives “differently”

Hesitates under acceleration, idles unevenly, drops into limp mode or loses power on hills. Classic symptoms of sensor, ignition or fuelling faults.

Hard starting

Starts badly in the morning, from cold, or after standing for a few days. We work out whether it’s electrical, fuelling or preheating – see also auto electrics.

Higher consumption or smoke

Fuel use has crept up for no reason and there’s black or blue smoke at the exhaust. On diesels this is the particulate filter, injector and EGR territory.

Before buying a car

A pre-purchase diagnosis shows stored faults and recently cleared ones. Bring the car to our workshop and find out what a test drive won’t show you.

Before a long trip

Heading off on holiday with a loaded car? Checking the stored faults costs little and is far cheaper than a breakdown 700 kilometres from home.

How it works

The diagnosis step by step

It usually takes less time than you’d think – and at the end you know exactly what the car has.

01

You describe the symptom

By phone or WhatsApp: what the car does, since when, under what conditions. We book you a slot so you’re not waiting around.

02

We read every control unit

We connect the tester to the OBD socket and pull the faults from all modules, not just the engine. We note the stored faults too, not only the active ones.

03

We verify mechanically

We measure and physically check what the code points to – because a code shows the area, not always the part. This is where a diagnosis differs from a simple code read.

04

You learn what it is and what it costs

We explain in plain language what we found, what’s urgent and what can wait. Then you get a fixed-price estimate – the decision stays yours.

The difference

Reading codes or diagnosing? Not the same thing

You can buy an OBD dongle today for the price of a tank of fuel and read the codes yourself with your phone. That’s useful for knowing what we’re talking about – but that’s where it stops. The app gives you a code and a literal translation; it doesn’t tell you whether the part is genuinely faulty or whether it is correctly reporting a problem somewhere else.

The most expensive repair is the one done for nothing: a part replaced “just in case” doesn’t fix the fault, but it does empty your wallet – and often a second part follows, on the same hunch. A proper diagnosis costs little precisely because it breaks that chain.

Here, a diagnosis means tester plus mechanical verification plus an explanation. If the repair then happens with us, we’ll also talk openly about how the diagnostic fee is reflected in the job – ask on the phone and you’ll know before you come in.

All makes

Diagnostics for every make – diesel, petrol, hybrid

We work with a multi-brand tester and up-to-date technical data: Volkswagen, Renault, Dacia, Ford, Opel, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Hyundai and the rest of the common makes pass through our workshop in Dumbrăvița constantly.

Modern diesels have their own chapters – particulate filter, injectors, EGR – and turbocharged petrols have theirs. We know the symptoms of both camps and will tell you openly when a problem is a “known illness” of your model and which fix actually lasts.

Got a hybrid or an EV? We take those too. Tell us the exact model and what it’s doing, and we’ll confirm honestly whether your diagnosis can be done here or point you in the right direction. We only promise what we can deliver.

Price

What a car diagnosis costs

You’ll hear the fee on the phone before you come in – like all our prices.

The price of the repair that follows the diagnosis is quoted once and then stays fixed. No hidden fees, no “additions” on the invoice.

After the diagnosis

What happens once we know what’s wrong

A diagnosis isn’t an end in itself – it’s the first step. If the problem is mechanical, we fix it in the workshop: brakes, suspension, timing belt, clutch or engine, all on the car repairs page. If it’s electrical, we continue on auto electrics.

If the car can no longer reach us under its own power, you don’t need a second supplier: we come with our flatbed, bring it to the workshop and carry on with the diagnosis here. One phone call, one invoice.

And if the diagnosis shows the car simply needs its routine maintenance, we do that on the spot – details on the car servicing page. We come from Dumbrăvița and work for drivers in Timișoara and across all the areas around it.

How long does a car diagnosis take?

Reading the faults from all control units usually takes a few tens of minutes. Mechanically verifying what those faults point to can take longer, depending on the symptom – we’ll give you a realistic window on the phone based on what you describe, and tell you if it turns out to need more time.

Do I need an appointment for a diagnosis?

We recommend calling ahead on +40 724 714 202: that way we reserve you a slot and your car doesn’t queue. But if you’ve broken down, or the warning light has just come on and you’re worried, call anyway – we’ll find a way.

The engine light is on. Can I keep driving?

It depends on the fault, and we can’t guess from a distance. The practical rule: if the light is on steadily, the car drives normally and nothing else has changed, you can usually make it to the workshop. If the light is flashing, or there’s smoke, a new noise or limp mode – stop and call us, we’ll come with the flatbed.

Can you just clear the fault without repairing it?

Clearing a fault without fixing the cause repairs nothing – the light comes back, and meanwhile the car is driving around with a real problem. We’ll tell you openly what we found and let you decide. What we won’t do is clear faults to make a car look healthy for a sale.

Is the diagnostic fee deducted from the repair?

We discuss that openly beforehand, on the phone, depending on the job. What we do guarantee is that you know the diagnostic fee in advance, and that the repair price, once quoted after the diagnosis, stays fixed.

Do you do pre-purchase diagnostics on used cars?

Yes, we do this often. We read both stored and active faults, check what they point to and tell you what we found. Bring the car to the workshop in Dumbrăvița and ideally call ahead so we can reserve you a slot.

Do you have a tester for my make?

We work with a multi-brand tester covering the common makes on the Romanian market, in diesel, petrol and hybrid. Tell us the make, model and year on the phone and we’ll confirm straight away – and if your job needs something we don’t have, we’ll say so openly and point you further.

Does a diagnosis replace a service?

No. A diagnosis looks for the cause of a fault; a service is scheduled maintenance – oil, filters, checks. The two complement each other: during a service we do a short fault read anyway, and if something shows up we tell you before touching anything.
