Car air conditioning service and recharge in Timișoara

The air conditioning cools more and more weakly, blows lukewarm in traffic or smells odd when you switch it on? An AC system loses a little refrigerant every year – that’s normal, but at some point it needs putting right. We check it and recharge it at our workshop in Dumbrăvița.

  • We check first and recharge after – no blind gas top-ups
  • If the system won’t hold gas, we look for the leak
  • Price quoted before the work starts
Why it fades

Why air conditioning weakens, year after year

Nobody notices the day the AC started cooling less well. The decline is gradual – which is why most drivers only realise on the first genuinely hot day.

An air conditioning system isn’t perfectly sealed and can’t be: it has hoses, seals and joints through which a small amount of refrigerant normally escapes each year. The less there is left in the system, the more weakly it cools – and the harder the compressor has to work.

There’s a less pleasant side too: the refrigerant also carries the oil that lubricates the compressor. A system left for years with too little gas doesn’t just cool badly, it puts the compressor itself at risk – the most expensive part in the whole installation. Which is why “it’ll do” is rarely a saving.

The good news: most of the time nothing is broken. The system simply needs putting right – checked, properly evacuated and refilled with the exact quantity the manufacturer specifies.

The work

What an air conditioning service covers

What goes into an AC job at our workshop – and why each step matters.

Checking the system

We measure the pressures and check how cold it actually blows at the vents. That tells us whether it’s simply low on gas or something else – before we touch anything.

Refrigerant recharge

We evacuate the system properly, pull a vacuum and refill it with the exact quantity your model calls for – not “until it sounds about right”.

Leak tracing

If the system won’t hold gas, a simple refill is money thrown away. We look for where it’s escaping and tell you what the repair involves, with a price, before any work.

Cabin filter

A clogged cabin filter cuts the airflow and brings smells into the car. We check it and replace it on request – it’s a short, inexpensive job.

Compressor and components

Noise when the AC engages, a compressor clutch that won’t pull in, a fan that doesn’t start. We check them and tell you openly what gets repaired and what gets replaced.

The electrical side

Sometimes the AC won’t come on at all and the cause isn’t the gas but a sensor, a relay or wiring – which belongs to auto electrics.

Straight talk

We don’t pump gas into a leaking system

The most convenient “repair” on an AC system is to refill it and take the money. It blows cold for two months, the customer is happy – and next summer they’re back with the same problem, paying again. That’s not how we work.

If your system was recharged recently and already isn’t cooling, then you don’t have a gas problem, you have a leak. We’ll tell you that openly, even though it’s less welcome news than a quick refill, and show you what the real repair involves – at a fixed price, before you decide.

Same principle as everywhere here: we tell you what we found, what’s urgent and what can wait. The decision stays yours – see also what customers say about the way we explain things.

When

The right moment: spring, not the first heatwave

On the first 35-degree day everyone discovers at the same time that their car no longer cools – and that’s exactly when the workshops fill up. A check done in spring saves you that queue and gives you time to repair calmly, if it turns out to be needed.

A detail few people know: air conditioning isn’t just for summer. In winter the system dries the air and clears a misted windscreen far faster than heat alone – so a working AC is also better visibility in the cold months. Run briefly now and then over winter, it also keeps the seals in shape.

You can combine the job with a service or a diagnosis and get everything done in one visit.

How often does the AC need recharging?

There’s no single rule for all cars, because the normal loss differs from model to model and increases as the seals age. Practically: if you notice it cooling visibly worse than last year, it’s time for a check. If it was recharged recently and already isn’t cooling, that isn’t normal loss – that’s a fault.

The AC blows but the air isn’t cold. What could it be?

Most often too little refrigerant, but not always: it can be a compressor that won’t engage, a fan that doesn’t start, a sensor, or even a completely clogged cabin filter. That’s why we measure the pressures first and check what’s actually coming out of the vents, then say what it is.

It smells bad when I turn the AC on. Can that be fixed?

Usually yes. The smell most often comes from a clogged cabin filter and moisture left on the evaporator. We start with the filter, because it’s the short, inexpensive job, and tell you openly if your case needs more.

What refrigerant does my car use?

It depends on the model and year of manufacture – older and newer cars use different types, which cannot be mixed. Tell us the make, model and year on the phone and we’ll confirm straight away what your car uses and whether the job can be done here. We only promise what we can deliver.

Is it worth recharging the AC on an older car?

If the system is sealed, yes – it’s normal maintenance and gives you your comfort back. But if it loses gas quickly, we’ll tell you honestly what the real repair would cost, so you can decide whether it’s worth it against the value of the car. We won’t sell you a refill we know won’t last.

Do I have to leave the car all day?

For a normal check and recharge, no – it’s a job of a few hours and the car usually leaves the same day. If it turns out there’s a leak that needs repairing, the timeframe depends on the part involved and we’ll tell you along with the estimate.

Does the AC use more fuel?

Yes, a little – the compressor is driven by the engine. But a correctly charged system works efficiently and runs at full load less often, while one that’s low on gas struggles continuously. The difference between a well-maintained AC and a neglected one is often in favour of the maintained one.

Do you check the AC during a service?

Yes, during a service we check whether the system cools correctly – it’s one of the included checks. If we find something, we tell you beforehand with the price for the job, and you decide whether we do it then or later.
