Auto electrics in Timișoara and Dumbrăvița – battery, alternator, starter

Half of a car’s “mystery faults” are actually electrical: a battery on its last legs, an alternator that has stopped charging, a tired starter motor or a sensor sending nonsense values. At our workshop in Dumbrăvița we look for the real cause – we don’t swap parts until something sticks.

  • Charging and starting circuit tested at the source
  • Wiring, earths and corroded connectors repaired, not bypassed
  • Fixed price quoted before the work starts
Why it’s hard

Why electrical faults seem to belong to nobody

A broken mechanical part is visible. A bad contact is visible only if you go looking for it – which is exactly why these cars end up at their third workshop with the same fault.

Electrical faults have an infuriating habit: they come and go. Fine in the morning, dead after rain; fine at the workshop, dead on the road. A cable chafed on a body seam, a rusted earth point under the floor or a greened-up connector do precisely that – and no fault code will ever write out “you have a bad earth here”.

So with electrics we don’t start from the part, we start from the circuit: we measure where there should be voltage and where there actually is, follow the route and find the point where it’s lost. It sounds slow, but it’s the only method that doesn’t bring you back in a fortnight.

The first stage is almost always a computer diagnosis: stored faults from the comfort, engine and ABS modules show us where to start looking. Then the measuring begins.

Jobs

What we fix on the electrical side

The electrical jobs that come into our workshop most often – with the symptoms that give them away.

Battery and charging circuit

The battery drains overnight, the car starts badly from cold, or a new battery “won’t hold”. We test the battery under load and check whether the alternator is genuinely charging it.

Alternator

Charge warning light on, headlights that pulse, a battery flat again after a few days. We measure the charging voltage and the alternator’s condition before proposing a replacement.

Starter motor and starting

A single dry click at the key, a starter spinning without engaging, or starting that keeps you waiting. We clearly separate a starter problem from a battery one – they get confused often.

Sensors and warning lights

A sensor sending wrong values can light up the dash and change the way the car drives. We measure the signal rather than simply trusting the fault code.

Wiring, earths and connectors

Chafed cables, corroded contacts, loose earths – the classic cause of faults that come and go. We repair them at the source instead of bypassing them with a wire run over the top.

Parasitic drains

Car stands for two days and the battery is flat? We hunt for the current still flowing after you’ve locked it – a module that won’t sleep, a stuck relay, a badly fitted accessory.

Won’t start

Car won’t start: two options, one number

If it’s just a flat battery, there’s no point paying for a tow: our roadside assistance team comes to you, jump-starts the car and you drive on. Most of the time that’s the whole story.

If the car won’t start for another reason – starter, alternator, immobiliser, a wiring fault – we put it on the flatbed and bring it to the workshop, where we look for the real cause rather than the symptom. That’s where the measuring continues.

Both routes start from the same number, +40 724 714 202, at any hour. We’ll tell you on the phone which one makes sense in your situation – and the price, before we set off.

Before winter

The battery test before the cold season

Batteries don’t die suddenly – they weaken for months and give up on the first genuinely cold morning. A battery that starts a car perfectly well in summer can already be below the line at minus ten, because the cold takes away a good part of its usable capacity exactly when the engine is asking for the most.

The test takes a few minutes: we measure the battery under load, check the charging voltage from the alternator and inspect the terminals. At the end you know whether your battery will see out the winter or whether it’s worth replacing in good time, instead of finding out on a morning when nothing lights up on the dash.

It’s the kind of small check that prevents the exact scenario where you end up calling for roadside assistance. You can combine it with a service and get everything done in one visit.

Tracing an electrical fault varies enormously in working time from case to case – which is why we quote after the initial check, and once quoted the price stays fixed.

Areas covered

Auto electrician for Timișoara and around

The workshop in Dumbrăvița sits on the northern edge of Timișoara, so you reach us without crossing the city – a real advantage when the car only starts when it feels like it. From Covaci, Sânandrei and Giarmata you’re minutes from the workshop.

And if the car won’t start at all and has no way of reaching us, we bring it in: see the areas we cover and the 24/7 towing page. On the phone you get Benjamin, not a call centre passing you on.

My battery goes flat overnight. What could it be?

Usually one of three things: the battery has reached the end of its life, the alternator isn’t charging it enough, or something stays powered after you lock the car. These are told apart by measuring, not by guessing – we test the battery under load, check the charging voltage and, if needed, hunt for the parasitic drain.

How do I know whether it’s the battery or the starter?

The classic sign of a battery is that everything dies or visibly dims when you turn the key. With a starter, the lights stay strong but you hear a dry click, or nothing. It isn’t an absolute rule – which is why we measure before replacing anything. That confusion is exactly why batteries get replaced unnecessarily.

Can you repair the wiring or does it all need replacing?

Most of the time it’s a local repair: we fix the affected section, restore the contact or the earth and insulate it properly. Replacing a whole loom is rarely necessary – and we’ll tell you openly when it genuinely is, with the reason, before any work starts.

Do you fit electrical accessories – cameras, parking sensors, alarms?

Tell us on the phone exactly which accessory and which car, and we’ll confirm openly whether we can fit it. We don’t promise before knowing what’s involved – an electrical installation done in a hurry is precisely the source of the faults we later repair.

Do you work on the electrics of hybrids and EVs?

We take hybrids and EVs for the conventional 12 V work – service battery, lighting, sensors, comfort systems. For work on the high-voltage system, tell us the exact model and we’ll confirm openly whether it can be done here or point you in the right direction. We only promise what we can deliver.

What does tracing an electrical fault cost?

It depends heavily on the fault: some show up in ten minutes, others need a whole circuit followed through. That’s why we don’t throw a figure onto the website. We do an initial check, then quote you – and once quoted, the price stays fixed.

The battery warning light came on while driving. Can I reach the workshop?

That light usually means the car has stopped charging and is running on what’s left in the battery – so you have limited time, not unlimited. Switch off anything you don’t need, don’t stop the engine needlessly and call us on +40 724 714 202: we’ll tell you whether it makes sense to drive in or whether we come to you.

Do you show me the replaced part?

Yes. We show you the parts we replaced and hand them over when you collect the car, if you want them – exactly as with mechanical repairs. And the estimate lists parts and labour separately.
